Technical support for the transformation of two industrial zones of Uzbekistan into Eco-Industrial Parks
Background
Industrial parks, often located on city outskirts, drive economic growth in developing countries. Over time, they have embraced Eco-Industrial Parks (EIPs) to promote sustainable industrial development (ISID) aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). EIPs enhance resource efficiency, competitiveness, and resilience while providing economic, social, and environmental benefits.
In Uzbekistan, industrial zones support economic diversification and investment. As part of the Green Industrialization of Uzbekistan project, funded by GIZ, UNIDO will pilot EIP development at two sites, drawing on global programs and collaborations. This initiative aims to create sustainable, resource-efficient industrial zones aligned with national development goals.

Objectives
The objective of the project is to demonstrate the viability and benefits of EIP approaches in scaling up resource efficiency and improving economic, environmental and social performances of the industrial sector, thereby contributing to inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Uzbekistan.
The project will raise the awareness of companies and relevant state bodies on green industrialization and strengthen the role of business service providers to support industrial companies in having more options to adopt more sustainable production patterns.
